Holiday Blues Don't Have to Be | Proverbs 17:22
Holidays (Thanksgiving) are not a good time for everyone.
There are many people who spend their time alone.
Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks; thanks for what you have instead of complaining about what (who) you don’t have. I can still remember years ago, as Mother’s Day was coming up and I asked a mother what her plans were. She quickly replied, I don’t celebrate Mother’s Day. I thought, here is a mother not celebrating “her day.”
She told me that her mother died several years ago, and so she stopped celebrating that day. I say all of that to say, many people have the Holiday Blues, and this "don’t" have to be. We have a choice as to what we choose to give our attention to. What are you focusing on this Thanksgiving season?
There is plenty wrong in the world and maybe even your world. However, someone would trade places with us in minute. There’s homelessness due to downsizing, not based on their choices. People have been in forest fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and have lost everything; again, not by choice.
You say, “I lest you didn’t lose your life;” doesn't help in many cases. Here are some solutions: Choose to think yourself happy (see Acts 26:2). You can be happy; you can have a merry heart when you focus on the beauty and not the ugliness in the world; your world. The same God who made the earth, and made the earth shake, can also shake you out of difficulties you are facing.
If you are “waiting” for all things to be “alright” before you enjoy yourself, you may stay unhappy. However, you can make it a good day simply by making your mind work in your favor and being determined to make a difference. Difference makers make different moves, they push against things, and they change the status quo.
Make up your mind to enjoy, be joyful, and rejoice in this season. Rise above the situations, and tell the circumstances that you are in charge, not them. Make it a Happy Thanksgiving folks. “Tis the Season to” have a Merry Heart.
